Maybird and Her History
Maybird is a classic sailing boat, a 43ft gaff rig sailing ketch.
She was built at Arklow by Jack Tyrrell in 1937.
Maybird made the 14,000 mile passage to New Zealand in 1971/73 and returned to these waters in 2009. After a major restoration, she went on to win the Iolaire Trophy, awarded by the Royal Ocean Racing Club, for the oldest boat to finish the 2011 Fastnet Race.
Darryl Hughes has owned Maybird for 14 years and she is currently moored at Poolbeg Yacht Club Marina. Come hear Darryl tell the fascinating story of Maybird’s history.
