Adult Sailing Courses

Start Sailing Course (Level 1)

This is our most popular course and a great way to try out the wonderful sport of sailing. The aim of this course is to introduce you to the skills you will need to take control of a sailing boat in light winds, all while under the watchful eye of your instructor. For this course we will be using the Ruffian (a small yacht) which will not capsize, allowing you to learn to sail without a wetsuit and without the worry of ending up in the water.

You will cover many nautical topics, such as rigging up a boat, tying knots, sailing across the wind, upwind and down wind as well as getting to grips with turning the boat through the wind ("tacking" and "gybing"). Other subjects covered include interpreting weather forecasts, tidal information and a thorough review of relevant safety issues.

Most importantly of all, we are sure that you will have a serious amount of fun with our instructors!

The full ISA syllabus can be seen here.

Duration: 2 Days (or 4 evenings)

Cost: €225 per person

Booking for 2 people on the same course €200 per person

Booking for 3 people on the same course €175 per person

Larger group rates are also available on request.

Basic Skills Course (Level 2)

This is the next step up from the Start Sailing course and introduces new sailors to the next set of skills. The aim is by the end of this course you will be sailing on your own in light wind conditions without the assistance of the instructor. As with the Start Sailing course we use the Ruffian for this course.

You'll recap everything you would have learned in the Start Sailing course to brush up and improve those skills further. You'll also cover things like picking up moorings, bringing the boat alongside piers and pontoons, learning how to recover a man overboard safely, get an introduction to some traffic rules regarding boats as well as building up your knowledge around weather forecasts and tidal information further.

This is a fun filled course with some serious skill building and learning taking place!
